FCC Proposes Space Bureau

On November 3, 2022, Chairwoman Rosenworcel announced a plan to reorganize the International Bureau into two separate offices: a Space Bureau and an Office of international Affairs.  The Chairwoman expects that this will allow the agency to better support the needs of the growing satellite industry while also continuing to navigate global communications policy.

The Chairwoman noted that the FCC received over 64,000 applications for new satellites in the past two years.  The newly formed Space Bureau will allow the agency to better elevate the significance of satellite programs and policies and acknowledge the role of satellite communications in advancing domestic communications policy and US broadband goals.  The Office of International Affairs will be focused on matters of international communications regulation and licensing.
